Linfield publishes annual safety report

October 4, 2023 by Kathy Foss

By Kathy Foss

Linfield University’s 2022 Annual Security Report is now available online. The yearly report was posted on Friday, Sept. 29, 2023, and includes safety processes, emergency procedures and crime statistics for Linfield’s McMinnville and Portland campuses.

The report is a requirement of federal law, including the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Higher Education Opportunity Act.

The report includes statistics for the previous three calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on-campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the university; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, a university campus. Data included in this report includes statistics from Linfield’s McMinnville and Portland campuses.

The report also includes links to institutional policies concerning campus security. This includes:

  • Information about Linfield’s sexual misconduct and relationship violence procedures. For more information, contact the Title IX coordinator at titleix@linfield.edu, or visit https://inside.linfield.edu/sexual-misconduct/index.html.
  • A listing of policies applicable to students as outlined in the Student Policy Guide at https://catalog.linfield.edu/spg/.
  • Information about Linfield’s emergency notification system, CatAlert. More information about CatAlert is at https://www.linfield.edu/linfield-public-safety/catalert.html.
  • An overview of Linfield’s crime reduction programs. LPS offers a courtesy ride program, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training, a personal defense class and public safety presentations, among others, to proactively minimize crime on Linfield’s campuses. More information is at https://www.linfield.edu/linfield-public-safety/index.html.

Overall, reported crime decreased on the McMinnville campus from 2021 to 2022; the Portland campus stayed even with no reported crimes. The most reported crime in McMinnville were liquor law referrals, which decreased by nearly 50% from 2021 to 2022. One bias-related crime or incident pursuant to the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) was reported on the McMinnville campus and none on the Portland campus in 2022.

The Annual Security Report is available at https://linfield.edu/linfield-public-safety/incident-reports.html. A paper copy of this report can be requested by contacting Linfield Public Safety, 900 SE Baker Street, McMinnville, Oregon 97128, or 503-883-7233.
