Bilingual seal gives education student a boost

July 28, 2014 by Linfield News Team

By Linfield News Team

Pioneer Hall, Linfield CollegeAn incoming Linfield College freshman was included in a recent OPB story about bilingual education.

Listen to the story. Regan Orman earned a bilingual seal on her diploma from Corvallis High School.  She went through additional steps to get the seal from the dual language program – she shadowed a bilingual professional, volunteered in a bilingual classroom and was interviewed in Spanish where she had to answer questions about an article she’d just been given.  She hopes to become a teacher.

Oregon has a shortage of bilingual teachers and is making ongoing efforts on several fronts to deepen one of its shallowest pools of educators. Oregon has 70 schools with dual language programs with more on the way.
