A complimentary wine reception begins at 5:30 p.m., with the lecture to follow at 6 p.m in Nicholson Library (location) on Linfield’s McMinnville campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Wittstrom Higgins is the founder of Dream Big Darling, a 501(c)3 dedicated to mentoring, educating and retaining women in the wine industry, as well as the owner of Full Cup Solutions, “a full-service consulting firm for agriculture and beverage industry businesses eager to build impactful and unconventional strategies for the future.” Continue reading

President Miles K. Davis announces creation of scholarship for Jamaican students

Davis announced in a speech Thursday that starting with the 2023-24 academic year, the university will offer up to five “last dollar” scholarships to students from Jamaica. The scholarships can be for as much as full tuition and fees and will be offered with an emphasis on students interested in the creative arts.  

He made the announcement during his keynote address to the Creative Career Expo, an annual event from the Jamaican Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport. The event draws hundreds of students interested in studying creative fields to the Jamaica Conference Centre in the capital city of Kingston.  Continue reading

Linfield University named most innovative wine studies program in America by Leary’s Global Wineology

“This distinction proves what we already know to be true: a Linfield wine education is world-class,” said Linfield President Miles K. Davis. “We could not be prouder of this program.”

Linfield was cited for its “interdisciplinary curriculum emphasizing theory and practice, including B.A. or B.S. degree options, plus advanced study programs in wine business, including a five-year undergraduate/master’s program in conjunction with [Ecole Superieure d’Agriculture] one of France’s top wine universities.”

Fall enrollment shows record highs in first-generation, graduate and Latinx populations

Linfield University announced its fall enrollment numbers Wednesday, reporting all-time highs in first-generation and Hispanic/Latinx students, and in graduate-level students.

According to official statistics, Linfield enrolled 1,755 undergraduate and graduate students this fall on its McMinnville and Portland campuses and its eCampus. The size of this fall’s new class of first-year and transfer students grew by 5% from fall 2021, bringing 464 new Wildcats into the Linfield community. Continue reading

U.S. News & World Report names Linfield best for social mobility and ethnic diversity

Nursing students sit outside on Portland campusFor the fourth consecutive year, U.S. News & World Report magazine has named Linfield University one of the best liberal arts colleges in the nation when it comes to social mobility. In the publication’s 2023 rankings, Linfield was named the top liberal arts college in Oregon and No. 57 in the nation on the “Top Performers in Social Mobility” list.

The social mobility category measures how well universities graduate students who received federal Pell Grants. Students receiving these grants typically come from households whose family incomes are less than $50,000 annually, with most money going to students with total family incomes below $20,000. Of Linfield’s 1,762 undergraduate students last year, 480 individuals (27%) were Pell Grant eligible.
