Day of service honors Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of ServiceLinfield College partnered with Chemeketa Community College to weed, clean and spruce up during a day of service in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Monday, Jan. 19.

Volunteers gathered in three McMinnville locations to provide a direct impact to local neighbors. Projects focused on helping the environment and local schools. They worked on a native garden at Patton Middle School, weeded and cleaned at Memorial Elementary School and assisted the Greater Yamhill County Watershed Council.

“This joint project is a first for Linfield and Chemeketa and we are extremely excited to be working together to serve our community,” said Amber Hay, event coordinator and 2014 Linfield graduate. “In the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we are serving the McMinnville community and bringing two diverse groups of individuals together. I cannot think of a better way to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.”

Linfield faculty and students utilize service-learning as a learning strategy throughout the year. Learn more about Community Engagement and Service at Linfield.

The day was sponsored by the Office of Community Engagement and Service, the Office of Multicultural Programs, and in partnership with Chemeketa Community College.
