Linfield’s new center is tied to regional issues, which is why KATU Channel 2 news approached center Director Jeff Peterson about immigration as an election issue.
Peterson commented on a lawsuit filed in the final days of the election campaign, accusing the Democratic candidate of using illegal immigrants. Democrat Susan Sokol Blosser is suing her opponent, state Rep. Jim Weidner, R-Yamhill, for libel.
“Candidates conveniently use the immigration issue against the other side,” Peterson says.
“The reality is, we often need these workers, and if you actually had consensus on it, we would have had immigration reform already.”
Peterson says both sides of the aisle are dependent on immigrant labor.
