Linfield professors Anton Belov and Hannah Penn will present a variety of music at an upcoming faculty recital.
Belov, associate professor of music, and Penn, adjunct professor of voice, will be featured in a faculty recital on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. in the Richard and Lucille Ice Auditorium in Melrose Hall at Linfield College.
Belov and Penn will perform art songs by Strauss, De Falla, Rachmaninoff and Bolcom, in addition to selections from opera and musical theater. Susan McDaniel, principal accompanist at Linfield, will play piano.
Belov received his doctorate degree in music from the Boston University and a master’s degree in music from the Juilliard School. He has earned praise for his portrayal of characters such as Germont in the opera “La Traviata” and Count di Luna in the opera “Il Trovatore.” His voice has been called “rich and mellifluous” by the New York Times, and his most recent appearance as the soloist in “Carmina Burana” was described by Florida Weekly as “captivating in every way, casting a musical spell over the audience.”
Penn is a performer of opera, oratorio and recital literature. She has sung more than twenty operatic roles with Glimmerglass Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Portland Opera, Tacoma Opera and other companies. Penn frequently performs with Portland Opera, most notably as the title role in ”Carmen,” Julie in ”Show Boat,” and L’enfant in Ravel’s ”L’enfant et les sortileges.” Penn also enjoys a full concert schedule, having been featured with orchestras around the country, including several appearances with the Oregon Symphony, the Seattle Baroque, the Portland Baroque Orchestra and the Florida Philharmonic.
