Sumner and Schilling research fire lookout stories

July 8, 2014 by Kevin Curry

By Kevin Curry

Fire LookoutGreat American writers like Jack Kerouac, Gary Snyder and Martha Hardy spent time working, and writing, from fire lookouts across the Pacific NW. Austin Schilling ’14 and Professor David Sumner are working on an anthology of fire lookout stories. Their research was highlighted in the Summer 2014 edition of Linfield Magazine.

Sumner and Schilling hiked up to a fire lookout in the North Cascades and here is the incredible view from a lookout that inspired the likes of Kerouac and Snyder.
