Linfield University’s Department of Music presents the fourth and final in a series of events this spring featuring the Portland-based chamber music ensemble Fear No Music.
Pianist Jeff Payne performs a 30-minute streamed recital highlighting the works of Black composers at 7;30 p.m. Monday, April 5, 7:30 p.m., followed by a panel discussion at 8:15 p.m. The recital and panel discussion are free and open to the public. Pre-registration is required. Registrants will receive recital and panel links via email.

Payne founded the Fear No Music (FNM) ensemble with percussionist Joel Bluestone in 1992, and has performed with the group across the United States including concerts in New York City, California, Colorado and throughout the Pacific Northwest. During his tenure as FNM artistic director, he founded the Young Composers Workshop, and continues as its director, overseeing the development of aspiring young creative minds around the country. Payne earned a Bachelor of Music by Boston University and holds a Master of Music in piano from the New England Conservatory. He currently teaches at Reed College.
The recital features the following pieces from Black composers, as part of Fear No Music’s “Tomorrow is My Turn” virtual season:

- Unity Amongst Youth of the Diaspora
- Secondline for Black Love
- Margaret Bonds – “Troubled Water”
- Quinn Mason – “The Never-ending Ocean of Identity”
While the 30-minute concerts are part of Fear No Music’s public event series, the panel discussion is being offered exclusively to Linfield’s students and local communities.
