Multicultural education professor takes students off the beaten path

February 27, 2012 by Linfield News Team

Students in Professor Gennie Harris’ inquiry seminar got a bit of a surprise on a recent field trip. Read more in the student newspaper, the Linfield Review.

“Tattoos, Piercings and Post-Modern Identities” explored how and why body alterations have intersected with personal identity in the 21st century and throughout history.

Freshmen investigated tattoos, piercings and multiple identities, and the class culminated in a visit to a tattoo parlor, where students received an overview of body modification culture. Harris surprised her students by getting a tattoo.

The Linfield Review story was written by elementary education student Emily Jenkins ’13. Photos were contributed by Jean Caspers, a member of the Linfield library faculty.
