Sherilyn Harrington ’15 got an up-close view of the Oregon wine industry after spending last year as an intern with the Oregon Wine Industry Experience.
The insight into the wine industry was valuable when Harrington teamed with the Linfield Center for the Northwest (LCN) to film and edit a series of videos, “Wine, About It.” The videos will be used in a new Linfield College course, “Fundamentals of Wine,” taught by Jeff Peterson, LCN director.
The videos serve as an introduction to the Oregon Wine Industry and are an advantage to those who are interested in learning more about wine. The Linfield wine studies program is growing rapidly and these videos will help serve as jumping off points to continue that growth, Peterson said.
In addition, a series of guest lectures is available including talks by wine makers David Adelsheim and Susan Sokol Blosser.
Harrington, who earned a bachelor’s degree in French from Linfield in May, was an intern for the Oregon Wine Industry Experience (OWIE) during her senior year. As part of the internship, she participated in numerous aspects of the wine industry. From clipping vines, counting clusters or washing barrels, Harrington, along with other OWIE interns, did it all. OWIE provides the opportunity to teach students the business of the wine industry.
Harrington is now volunteering at a non-profit with AmeriCorps in Vancouver, Wash.
