May 17, 2021 by Kathy Foss

BSN written on mortar boardThe Linfield University-Good Samaritan School of Nursing honors its graduating class of 2021 with a three-day celebration, May 20-22.

A total of 103 graduates will be recognized at a combination of online and in-person events on the university’s Portland campus, including a drive-thru “Carmencement” in-person celebration on Friday, May 21, as well as a virtual Spring Pinning broadcast on the university’s YouTube channel on Saturday, May 22.

“This May’s graduates are some of the most resilient students I’ve had to pleasure to educate. They know how to embrace change and move forward,” said Kimberly Dupree Jones, dean of the School of Nursing. “During their time at Linfield, these students rolled up their sleeves to help fight a global pandemic, pivoted to online learning and moved to a beautiful new campus.”

Over the last nine months, more than 275 students have earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Linfield, completing their degree requirements in August and December 2020 and May 2021.

Earlier this month, Linfield held Commencement activities on its McMinnville campus for 303 students who earned degrees from the College of Arts and Sciences and School of Business. Recordings of activities are available on the Commencement webpage.

All in-person events are invite-only. Virtual events are open to the public to view on Linfield University’s YouTube page. A full list of the events celebrating the Linfield’s Portland graduates is:

  • Nursing Senior Toast and Celebration: 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 20. Outside Building #1. Students, faculty and staff only, by invite.
  • Nursing Carmencement: 4-7 p.m. Friday, May 21. Portland campus. By appointment only.
  • Virtual Pinning: 12 p.m. Saturday, May 22. Linfield University YouTube channel.

Invited attendees should be aware of Linfield’s current security and pandemic policies. Buildings are still restricted to outside community members, and everyone on Linfield property is required to wear a face covering and observe six feet of distance at all times. All members of the community are encouraged to stay at home if they feeling unwell and to wash their hands frequently.

More information about Linfield’s commencement activities is available at linfield.edu/commencement.
