Jazz band and choir night at Linfield

Jazz music from the Swing Era is the focus of an upcoming concert at Linfield College.

The Linfield Music Department will host Jazz Night, an event featuring the Jazz Band and Double Vision, the vocal jazz ensemble, on Friday, Dec. 11, at 8 p.m. in the Richard and Lucille Ice Auditorium in Melrose Hall.

The Linfield Jazz Band, directed by Steve Kravitz, adjunct professor of music, will perform original big band jazz compositions, including “Parker’s Mood” from Supersax.

Junior Matthew Moss and freshman Tim Pragg will play “Tenor Madness,” and freshman Lynette Cole will perform a solo on “I Got Rhythm.” Junior Corey Darnielle will also play “Georgia on My Mind.”

Double Vision is under the direction of Dana Libonati, adjunct professor of music. The ensemble will perform a variety of music, including “Love Makes the World Go Round,” which is an arrangement from the Grammy winning CD by the New York Voices.

The vocal ensemble will present a total of eight songs, one of which is the jazz version of The Beatles’ song “In My Life.”

The event is sponsored by the Linfield Music Department and is free and open to the public. For more information, call Steve Kravitz, 503-883-2275, skravitz@linfield.edu.
