Linfield College Professor Anna KeeseyLinfield College Professor Anna Keesey will present a window into the creative process of writing a novel during an upcoming faculty lecture at Linfield.

Keesey, the Renshaw Distinguished Professor of Literature and Writing, will present “The Girl in the Pool and Other Problems: Excerpts From a Novel in Progress,” on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m. in 201 Riley Hall.

Keesey, a Linfield professor since 2007, is a graduate of Stanford University and the Iowa Writer’s Workshop. Her widely acclaimed debut novel, “Little Century,” was published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux in 2012. It was chosen for the Barnes and Noble DISCOVER GREAT NEW WRITERS series, and was awarded the Janet Heidinger Kafka prize by the University of Rochester. Keesey’s work has appeared in a number of journals and anthologies, including Best American Short Stories. Her most recent publications are “Keyhole,” an essay for the online publication BLOOM, and “Simple Girl: The Unexpected Solace of Mansfield Park,” a personal essay on her obsession with an often-maligned Jane Austen novel, which appeared in the Los Angeles Review of Books online. Keesey is the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Creative Writing Fellowship and has held residencies at MacDowell, Bread Loaf, Yaddo and Provincetown. Keesey teaches English and creative writing at Linfield, and will be teaching a writing workshop at the Manzanita Writers’ Series on the Oregon coast in March.

The lecture is free and open to the public. The Linfield College faculty lecture series offers one presentation each month by a member of the Linfield faculty. For more information, call 503-883-2409.
