The director of Linfield University’s teacher education program, Carrie Kondor, received state Senate approval for a seat on the Oregon Teaching Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC).
After serving in an interim capacity since February 2021, Kondor’s nomination by the Oregon Alliance of Independent Colleges and Universities was approved Monday, Nov. 15.
“I hope to join in the TSPC’s commitment to a more equitable education system,” Kondor said. “As a commissioner, I will persist with a strong commitment to collaborative, culturally-sustaining and inclusive practices.”
Kondor was recommended to Gov. Kate Brown by TSPC Director Anthony Rosilez. Kondor, a Tigard resident, will serve until January 2024.
Her experience in education began with working as a behavior therapist for preschool children with autism, followed by K-12 teaching experience in special education and general education settings. At Linfield, she has taught educator training courses focused on equity, literacy, child growth and development.
Kondor joined the Linfield University faculty in July 2020. She is currently researching and collaborating with a co-author on a new book tentatively titled, “Calling White Allies to Step it Up! A Guide for Productive Anti-racism Facilitation Within White Power Systems.” Kondor has been instrumental in starting new and innovative programs in Linfield’s Department of Education. In fall 2021, the department created the first undergraduate teacher preparation program in the state focusing on secondary drama and began offering a special education generalist endorsement for undergraduate and graduate students.
TSPC’s mission is to establish, uphold and enforce professional standards of excellence and communicate those standards to the public and educators for the benefit of Oregon’s students. Commissioners are responsible for approving TSPC rules and recommending changes to statutes impacting teachers, oversees licensing standards and certifications and acts as the deciding body on sanctions in response to complaints or misconduct reports.
