Kristin Krum, a certified nurse midwife, educator and U.S. Army veteran, is the new director of clinical education at Linfield University’s School of Nursing. She began the role July 1 and is already leading efforts to expand partnerships and improve hands-on learning for nursing students.

“Kristen’s leadership ensures our students get the best hands-on experience possible,” said Paul Smith, dean of the School of Nursing. “She is a deeply student-focused faculty member. Kristen is known for integrating creative and engaging approaches to help students connect classroom learning to clinical practice. This ability to engage and inspire will serve her well in this new role. Her vision, creativity and passion for excellence is shaping the future of nursing education at Linfield and ensures our graduates are exceptionally well prepared to serve their patients and communities.”

Krum joined Linfield as an assistant professor in 2022 and later served as IEL II coordinator. In that role, she advanced simulation-based training and led faculty exploring new strategies for clinical education. Overall, her clinical career spans more than 20 years. She has worked in settings ranging from home births to major medical centers and has cared for military families, Amish communities, LGBTQIA+ patients, and neurodiverse individuals.

At Linfield, Krum focuses on innovation in clinical training. She uses patient actors to enhance simulations, designs alternative scenarios for complex decision-making and integrates real-world health challenges into coursework. She is currently completing a Ph.D. in nursing science at Texas Woman’s University.

“Clinical education is where students grow into nurses,” Krum said. “I am honored to serve in this role and excited to work with faculty, staff and clinical partners to prepare Linfield graduates for success.”

Linfield’s School of Nursing offers several degree tracks to a successful health care career. This includes pre-licensure bachelor’s and master’s degrees — including the state’s only Master’s Entry into Professional Nursing program — as well as a robust online RN to BSN program.
