The Linfield Art Gallery’s new exhibition by photographer Leland Butler, “Connected to the Land,” runs March 20-May 3, with an opening reception Wednesday, March 20. The exhibition is presented in collaboration with the Chachalu Museum and Cultural Center of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde.
The museum is dedicated to telling the stories of the different Tribes and Bands of the Confederated Tribes located in the Grand Ronde community of Oregon. Butler is a Grand Ronde tribal member who is also Siletz (tribe) and Yurok (tribe). He found a passion for photography through his curiosity about self and the land.
The exhibition aims to display the beauty that light and shadow can create through landscapes. Exploring the concept further, it will also highlight the same beauty that light and shadows can present themselves in our own lives. With this concept, the gallery will present a collection of landscape photos of the Pacific Northwest that illustrate how our internal journey often brings us back to our roots, nature.
The opening reception, featuring the photographs and a talk from the artist, is 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 30. The show will run through May 3, and is free and open to the public. The gallery is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays and noon-5 p.m. Saturdays, though it is closed from March 25-31 for spring break.
This exhibition is sponsored by the Lacroute Arts Series and the Department of Art.For more information, email art@linfield.edu or visit linfield.edu/art/gallery.html.
