Linfield #1 ‘Best Bang for the Buck’ for liberal arts in Oregon and Washington

September 2, 2016 by Kevin Curry

By Kevin Curry

Washington MontlyLinfield College continues to earn accolades nationally for overall quality and value.

Linfield was recognized recently by Washington Monthly as one of the top liberal arts colleges in the nation and for providing outstanding value. The magazine ranked Linfield 72 out of 239 liberal arts colleges in the nation. Further, Linfield was ranked as the top liberal arts college in Oregon and Washington on the publication’s “Best Bang for the Buck” list.

The Washington D.C.-based publication touts itself as an alternative to more traditional rankings by focusing on what colleges and universities are doing to prepare students to be good citizens and help the country.

“We rate schools based on their contribution to the public good in three broad categories: social mobility (recruiting and graduating low-income students), research (producing cutting-edge scholarship and Ph.D.s), and service (encouraging students to give something back to their country),” according to the Washington Monthly website. “We also offer our ‘Best Bang for the Buck’ rankings – our exclusive list of schools that help non-wealthy students attain marketable degrees at affordable prices. ”

In addition, The Oregonian/OregonLive recognized Linfield on their listing of “Where are Oregon’s smartest college students?” Linfield ranked 5 out of the 15 colleges on the list, which was based on SAT and ACT scores as well as surveys of students.
