Linfield Archivist Rachael Woody was recently accepted to the 2013 Archives Leadership Institute, a recognition given to only 25 innovative leaders each year.
She was also selected as an inaugural member of the Oregon Heritage MentorCorps, and will provide training and support for Linfield’s peer institutions.
Woody has been instrumental in the development of the Oregon Wine History Archive, housed at Linfield College
“Rachael has had a remarkable impact in her short time at Linfield,” says Linfield President Thomas L. Hellie.
“She has established relationships with the founders of our wine industry and has collected their papers and materials,” Hellie says, “and she has inspired and overseen some of our most academically gifted students.”
Woody has been interviewed by major Oregon journalists, spoken at Portland’s monthly “History Pub” event, and worked with faculty from many disciplines to establish archives on the history of nursing in the Pacific Northwest, the history of the dory fishing fleet on the Pacific coast, and the founding of Linfield College, which is older than the state of Oregon. Oregon Public Broadcasting relied on her advice for its hour-long documentary on the history of wine in Oregon and the International Pinot Noir Celebration asked her to work on a special archival project related to vineyard workers in Oregon.
“Like all good archivists, Woody is curious about everything,” Hellie says. “But she is especially passionate about her work as an archivist.”
Our archival materials, Woody says, tell our stories in ways that words or even videos cannot.
