Linfield band concert to honor our nation’s veterans

Linfield Concert BandThe Linfield College fall band concert, “Americana and Honoring Our Nation’s Veterans,” will be held Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. in Ice Auditorium in Melrose Hall at Linfield. The concert will feature patriotic music performed by the Linfield College Concert Band, Concert Choir and a piano solo by Johnandrew Slominski, Linfield assistant professor of music. 

The concert will open with the “Star Spangled Banner” and honor guard volunteers from McMinnville’s American Legion Post 21 presenting flags of the armed forces. Other songs in the program include “Salute to the Colors” by Bert Anthony, “Band of Brothers” by Michael Kamen and George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.” 

The Linfield College Concert Choir, directed by Anna Song, associate professor of music and department chair, will join the band on “Hymn to the Fallen” by John Williams from the film “Saving Private Ryan,” the “Salute to the Armed Forces” arranged by Camp Kirkland and “Mansions of the Lord” by Nick Glennie Smith, Randall Wallace and Benjamin Harlan. “The Stars and Stripes Forever” by John Philip Sousa will close the concert. 

The Linfield Concert Band is comprised of approximately 50 members who play woodwinds, brass and percussion. The band is conducted by Joan Haaland Paddock, professor of music, with assistance from Abigail Sperling and Greyson Boydstun, both adjunct professors, and guest conductor Seth Wollam, Linfield marching band director.
