Linfield choral groups to present ‘Earthly Soundscapes’

April 30, 2019 by Linfield News Team

By Linfield News Team

Linfield College choirThe Linfield College Concert Choir, Cascara Voce and Men’s Glee will perform together at the spring choral concert at 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 12, in the Richard and Lucille Ice Auditorium in Melrose Hall at Linfield.

The program, “Earthly Soundscapes,” will celebrate the beauty and majesty of nature through song. It will explore what earthly forests, waters and winds teach us about ourselves, each other and the world around us. Selections by Giselle Wyers, Veljo Tormis, Paul Rudoi, Gustav Holst and Joan Szymko will be featured.

The show will be directed by Evan Miles, adjunct director of choral activities. He has a master’s degree in conducting from the University of Oregon and was most recently the guest conductor for the Portland Gay Men’s Chorus concert, “Our Audacity to Hope.” He is the founding artistic director of the recently formed Eugene Gay Men’s Chorus and is the director of worship music at Moreland Presbyterian Church in Portland.

The Linfield College Concert Choir is the premier choral organization at Linfield. This select group was the first such ensemble in the Pacific Northwest. The choir has toured every year since its formation in 1930, traveling throughout the western states, Hawaii, Canada, Europe, New Zealand, Australia, China and Southeast Asia and has performed at state, regional, national and international conferences.

The Wildcat Men’s Glee Club and Cascara Voce (Women’s Vocal Ensemble) offer students and staff from across campus and the community the opportunity to sing and perform a wide variety of literature  and occasionally combine to perform repertoire for mixed voices.

The concert is free, open to the public and sponsored by the Linfield Department of Music and Linfield Lively Arts. For more information, call 503-883-2275 or visit linfield.edu/arts.
