Linfield University ranked 160th out of 796 U.S. universities and the No. 57 liberal arts college in the nation, according to the 2022 Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Eucation (WSJ/THE) College Rankings. This continues an upward climb for Linfield in the WSJ/THE rankings, having been 176 in 2020 and 164 in 2021.
The annual rankings, released Sept. 21, are based on 15 performance indicators of student success and learning in the areas of school resources, student engagement, student outcomes and learning environment. Data for this ranking comes from the College Scorecard, Bureau of Economic Analysis and the THE U.S. Student Survey, among others.

Linfield scored high in the availabilty of resources, bolstered by the financial aid offered to students and its low student-to-faculty ratio of 11-to-1. Linfield scores were also some of the highest in Oregon for student engagement and student outcomes. The latter, which constituted 40 percent of the total college ranking, included graduation rate, debt after graduation and the value added to graduate salary.
Earlier this month, U.S. News & World Report named Linfield one of the top liberal arts colleges in the nation for social mobility, and Washington Monthly recognized Linfield as one of the 2021 Best Liberal Arts Colleges in the Nation.
