Linfield College named a ‘Best in the West’ college by The Princeton Review

Linfield College was named one of the region’s top schools by The Princeton Review and recognized for academic strength, engaging professors and the sense of community on campus.

The ratings were based on institutional data, independent student surveys, campus visits and reports from high school counselors across the nation. Only 25 percent of the nation’s four-year colleges were named “Regional Best” colleges.

Academics

According to Linfield College students, the small school has a “studious atmosphere” and “is all about having a personalized education.” Professors, students say, “are engaging, informative and approachable,” and they “bring their own personality to the class and encourage their students to do the same.” Students also praised Linfield’s study abroad program, which was ranked by the Institute of International Education as one the top 40 U.S. baccalaureate institutions for student participation.

Campus Community

According to the student surveys conducted by the Review, Linfield College students describe themselves as friendly and passionate. They say making friends at Linfield is easy. “There is a real sense of community on campus, and everyone goes out of their way to make sure you succeed,” said one student. Another says that the school is “really good at keeping people involved.”

“We’re pleased to recommend Linfield College as one of the best schools to earn an undergraduate degree,” said Robert Franek, senior vice president with The Princeton Review. Linfield is one of 122 institutions named to the “Best in the West” list.

Earlier this year, Linfield was featured in the 2012 Guide to Green Colleges, also published by The Princeton Review. The guide profiles 322 colleges and universities in the U.S. and Canada that have an outstanding commitment to sustainable practices.

About Linfield College

Linfield College is one of the few schools in the Pacific Northwest dedicated exclusively to undergraduate education. The college offers 47 majors and enrolls more than 2,600 students through three programs: a residential liberal arts and sciences program on the McMinnville, Ore., campus; the Linfield-Good Samaritan School of Nursing in Portland, Ore.; and the Adult Degree Program, which supports students at eight Oregon sites and serves a virtual learning community across the globe.

Linfield was named one of the nation’s top picks for high school counselors across the U.S. and has been nationally praised for combining affordability and excellence. The small college offers a student-faculty ratio of 12:1.

The park-like, residential campus is located an hour from Portland, Ore., and an hour from Pacific Ocean beaches. Established in 1858, Linfield is one of the first colleges in the Pacific Northwest.
