The Council for Advancement and Support of Education, or CASE, has recognized two communications projects from Linfield University as part of the 2024 Best of District VIII Awards.
CASE awards honor outstanding communication and advancement efforts undertaken by educational organizations. District VIII represents members in northwestern United States and Canada. This includes the states of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington and the provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Saskatchewan and Yukon. Volunteer judges from around the globe evaluated the submissions.
Linfield Magazine AI-generated cover
The fall 2023 edition of Linfield Magazine was honored in the cover design category. Submissions in this category included single covers from any printed publication. To support the cover package theme of “Higher Education’s High-Tech Future,” strategic communications’ staff developed the cover using AI technology. The magazine team wanted to represent Linfield, while also portraying the ways technology is shaping the future. The design was created by Chase Estep, director of web communications, and overseen by creative director Cándido Salinas III. Estep detailed the experience and process used to design the award-winning cover in the article, “Behind ‘on the cover’.”

Majestic Tree Week
The student-led Majestic Tree Week earned honors in the student engagement category. Entries in this category recognize “initiatives that engage students in an activity or event that advances the mission or a goal of the institution.” Students from the Environmental Advocacy and Communications class hosted the inaugural Majestic Tree Week in 2023. The bracket-style competition sought to crown the finest tree on Linfield’s McMinnville campus. Students organized programming, publicity efforts, community outreach and more. The class was led by environmental studies Professor William Fleeger and Kelly Williams Brown, media and public relations manager at Linfield. Majestic Tree Week also earned a CASE Circle of Excellence Award in the same category, announced in July.
