Linfield forensics recognized at national competition

Sophomore ’13 Chris Forrer and Darren Valenta ’11 walked away with honors at a recent national forensics tournament.

The Linfield College Forensics Team competed against schools from across the nation during the Pi Kappa Delta National Tournament and Convention March 24–26 in Portland. The tournament featured five styles of debate and 13 individual events.

Forrer was recognized as Excellent in dramatic interpretation, and Valenta earned Excellent in after-dinner speaking and poetry interpretation. The recognition of Excellent results from a performance in the top 30 percent nationally.

“In forensics, the rating of Excellent comes from experience, perseverance and passion,” says Linh Tang ’13.

The team is under the direction of Jackson Miller (pictured), director of forensics and associate professor of Communication Arts at Linfield.

“I’m proud of how our students finished against some of the finest in the nation,” Miller says.

The Linfield Forensics team is one of the oldest in the country and focuses on competitive speech and debate. For more information about forensics, contact Miller at (503) 883-2625, jmiller@linfield.edu.
