Cheerleaders at HomecomingA series of homecoming events for students and alumni are planned the week of Oct. 12 at Linfield College.

Student activities begin Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 6 p.m. with a campus barbeque and pep rally at the Riley intramural field. On Wednesday, Oct. 13, at 8 p.m. a song and banner competition will be held at the football field. On Thursday, Oct. 14, at 8 p.m. the Mr. and Miss Linfield competition will be held at the Richard and Lucille Ice Auditorium in Melrose Hall. On Friday, Oct. 15, at 8 p.m. students and alumni can watch The Spazmatics 80’s Band perform at the Riley intramural field. Student homecoming events will conclude Saturday, Oct. 16, at 9 p.m. with the homecoming dance at Fred Meyer Lounge in Riley Hall.

Registration for alumni activities begins Friday, Oct. 15, in Fred Meyer Lounge in Riley Hall. Activities include an Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum tour at 1:30 p.m., and the opportunity to attend several classes. From 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. alumni are invited to become a part of Linfield’s history by allowing student videographers to film their story about “the power of a small college.” Several clips will be shown on the scoreboard at halftime of the football game and prizes will be given for the best testimonials.

On Friday, Oct. 15, Susie Kuhn, class of 1997 and recipient of the Outstanding Young Alumna Award, will give a presentation at 3 p.m. in the Jereld R. Nicholson Library. Kuhn has a distinguished career at Nike and will share her experiences working in a global company.

Theresa Betancourt, class of 1991 and Distinguished Alumna of the Year, will speak at 4 p.m. in the Jereld R. Nicholson Library. Betancourt is a professor at the Harvard School of Public Health and director of the Research Program on Children and Global Adversity at the FXB Center for Health and Human Rights.

“Linfield’s Finest,” featuring the presentation of the annual alumni awards, will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the McMinnville Grand Ballroom. In addition to Kuhn and Betancourt, others to be honored include Shawn Chen, class of 1987, who will receive the Distinguished Alumnus of the Year award for his founding and sustaining a university that offers educational opportunities to students in his native China, and Brian Gerritz, class of 1998, who will receive the Alumni Service Award for his many contributions as an event host and mentor for students and as a member of the Business Advisory Council. The Walker Service Award will be presented to Laura Edman for her dedication as chair of the Parents Council Leadership Team.

Alumni events continue Saturday, Oct. 16, with registration starting at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. brunches for business majors and alumni, and theater, communication arts and forensics alumni. An all-alumni barbecue begins at noon in the Vivian A. Bull Music Center parking area, followed by the Linfield Wildcats vs. Pacific University Boxers football game at 1:30 p.m.
