Linfield Lively Arts to host New York Polyphony

November 27, 2017 by Christian Feuerstein

By Christian Feuerstein

NY PolyphonyAn acclaimed vocal group will perform at Linfield College as a part of the Linfield Lively Arts Series.

New York Polyphony will perform on Monday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m. in the Richard and Lucille Ice Auditorium in Melrose Hall at Linfield College.

New York Polyphony, founded in 2006, is one of the foremost vocal chamber ensembles active today. Featuring countertenor Geoffrey Williams, tenor Steven Caldicott Wilson, baritone Christopher Dylan Herbert and bass Craig Phillips, the four men give vibrant, modern voice to repertoire ranging from Gregorian chant to cutting-edge compositions. Both in performance and on recording, the ensemble has demonstrated a commitment to presenting contemporary compositions that explore the boundaries between ancient and modern music.

New York Polyphony tours extensively, participating in major concert series and festivals around the world, including performances at London’s Wigmore Hall and The Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and residencies at Dartmouth College and Stanford University. They have been featured on “Performance Today” for American Public Media, Public Radio International and BBC Radio 3’s “In Tune.” In December 2011, New York Polyphony made its national television debut on “The Martha Stewart Show.”

The ensemble’s albums have topped the “best of” lists of “The New Yorker,” “Gramophone” and “BBC Music Magazine.” In August 2016, New York Polyphony released their seventh album, “Roma aeterna.”

The concert is sponsored by the Linfield Lively Arts Series, which features guest artists in concerts and in outreach activities, including master classes, open rehearsals and “Meet the Musicians” events with students and local audiences. It is presented in collaboration with Friends of Chamber Music, a Portland-area non-profit organization, dedicated to presenting the highest quality chamber ensembles in concert, and providing educational outreach to further chamber music in our community.

Tickets are $10 at the door; however, the performance is free for K-12 students and Linfield students with current ID. For more information, call 503-883-2275 or visit www.linfield.edu/arts.
