Nursing students Jessica Blume, Eli Falk, Amy Frankel, Jacob Prinz and Peter Sunderland have been awarded scholarships by a prestigious national foundation that promotes diversity in the health care industry.
The five scholars, who have bachelor’s degrees from universities across the country, will graduate from Linfield’s accelerated nursing program in 2013.
“We are delighted to welcome these students to the nursing program, and grateful to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation for these scholarships,” says Beverly Epeneter, associate dean of nursing at Linfield College.
The Linfield-Good Samaritan School of Nursing, located in Portland, supports students who already have a higher education degree. The community-focused program balances clinical nursing experience with courses in the humanities, laboratory sciences and social and behavioral sciences.
The New Careers in Nursing Scholarship Program, launched in 2008 by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, supports nursing students who are traditionally underrepresented in the health care industry and pursuing a second career in nursing. The program helps train and support nurses are who culturally-competent.
