Daniel D. Hutto to present annual Powell philosophy lectures
Professor Daniel D. Hutto, visiting from Australia, will navigate topics such as narrative practices as a cornerstone of human social life and new ideas in the area of cognitive science in two upcoming lectures.
Hutto will present two lectures as part of the annual Walter Powell Philosophy Lecture series March 19-20 at Linfield College. Hutto will present “Making Sense of Ourselves and Others: Narratives not Theories” on Monday, March 19, at 7 p.m. in Jonasson Hall on the lower level of Melrose Hall at Linfield. He will then present “Radical Enactivism: Rethinking Basic Minds” on Tuesday, March 20, at 7 p.m. in Jonasson Hall.
Exhibition: Truth in Materials
The Department of Art at Linfield College will present “Truth in Materials,” an exhibition by visiting artist Deb Wheeler in the Nils Lou Gallery in the Miller Fine Art Center. The exhibit will be on view through March 28.
Fulbright scholar Daniel Oross to speak at Linfield
Youth political participation will be the topic of an upcoming lecture at Linfield College. Daniel Oross, a visiting Fulbright scholar, will present “Comparing Political Participation by Youth in the U.S. and E.U.” on Thursday, March 22, at 7 p.m. in the Austin Reading Room in the Nicholson Library at Linfield.
Flutist Abigail Sperling presents faculty recital at Linfield
Abigail Sperling, instructor of flute at Linfield College, will present her first faculty recital at Linfield, featuring music from New Zealand, Germany, Italy and France. The recital will be held Thursday, April 5, at 7 p.m. in the Delkin Recital Hall at the Vivian A. Bull Music Center.
Anis Mojgani to share works of poetry at ‘Readings at the Nick’
Anis Mojgani, an award-winning poet, will read from his work on Thursday, April 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the Austin Reading Room at Nicholson Library at Linfield College.
Mojgani is a spoken-word poet, visual artist and musician based in Portland. He is a two-time National Poetry Slam Champion, multiple-time TEDx speaker, and winner of the International World Cup Poetry Slam.
Linfield Concert Choir hosts eighth annual choir clinic
The Linfield College Concert Choir will host the eighth annual Choir Clinic for Yamhill County elementary and middle school students, grades 3-8, Friday, April 13, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Vivian A. Bull Music Center at Linfield.
A public concert for students to showcase what they have learned will be held at 4:30 p.m. in the Delkin Recital Hall at the Vivian A. Bull Music Center.

- Ilundáin-Agurruza also presented “Enactivism in the Trenches: Everyday Virtuosity and Skilled Performance” for the conference Enactivism: Theory and Performance in Memphis.
- Nick Buccola, professor of political science, received $21,500 in funding from The Jack Miller Center in support of the upcoming symposium on April 27 at Linfield, “Why Frederick Douglass Matters: A Bicentennial Symposium, featuring noted scholars Ibram X. Kendi (American University), David Blight (Yale University), Leigh Fought (Le Moyne College), Melvin Rogers (Brown University) and Diana Schaub (Loyola University of Maryland).
- Jennifer Heath, professor of physics, secured a $59,950 in support of student-faculty collaborative research from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust for a three-year project titled “Two-dimensional devices: potential barriers and screening.”
- Tom Mertes, scholarship advisor coordinator, successfully applied to the Fulbright Outreach Lecture Fund to bring Hungarian scholar Daniel Oross, to the McMinnville campus as part of the PLACE program. Oross will lecture on youth political participation in the U.S. and E.U.
- Josephine Zarkovich, gallery curator, secured a grant of $2,000 from the Yamhill County Cultural Coalition for the six-week exhibit and original performance, “Futility of Preparedness,” presented by Portland-based artist group Physical Education.
