U.S. News, Washington Monthly name Linfield top performer in social mobility

September 13, 2021 by Kathy Foss

By Kathy Foss

Pioneer Hall at Linfield UniversityFor the third consecutive year, U.S. News & World Report magazine has named Linfield University one of the top liberal arts colleges in the nation when it comes to social mobility.

The social mobility category measures how well universities graduate students who received federal Pell Grants. Students receiving these grants typically come from households whose family incomes are less than $50,000 annually, with most money going to students with total family incomes below $20,000. Of Linfield’s nearly 1,400 undergraduate students on its McMinnville campus last year, 27% were Pell Grant recipients.

Linfield also rose three places in the magazine’s overall rankings this year, to No. 117 in the nation, and was included in the publication’s inaugural list of Best Undergraduate Nursing Programs.

The Linfield-Good Samaritan School of Nursing also garnered additional recognition this year, being named in the Top 25 Online RN to BSN Degrees for 2021 by Top RN to BSN, and the No. 2 nursing school in Oregon by RNcareers.org.

U.S. News & World Report isn’t the only national publication recognizing Linfield’s commitment to improving the lives of students. Recently, Washington Monthly released its 2021 rankings, naming Linfield the No. 1 liberal arts college in Oregon for social mobility. Linfield was also named the top college or university in the state and No. 29 in the nation for graduates’ earnings.

Washington Monthly also listed Linfield as one of the 2021 Best Liberal Arts Colleges in the Nation and in the Top 100 schools for the Best Bang for the Buck in the West.
