Mackie to present ‘Free Electrons!’ at Linfield

October 2, 2018 by Christian Feuerstein

By Christian Feuerstein

Bill MackieBill Mackie will discuss free electrons in an upcoming Linfield College faculty lecture.

Mackie, professor emeritus of physics, who retired from Linfield at the end of the 2017-18 academic year, will give his “last lecture” on “Free Electrons!” The lecture will be held Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m. in 100 Graf Hall on campus.

The lecture will explore what an electron is. Electrons are everywhere…so what’s the problem with getting free ones? What can you do with a beam of electrons? This talk will include basic physics, some history and explain the problems to free electrons.

The lecture is free and open to the public. The Linfield faculty lecture series offers one presentation each month. For more information, call 503-883-2409.
