Traditional island dances and an authentic Hawaiian meal will highlight the 47th Annual Linfield College Lu’au, “Laulima (Many Hands Working Together)” on Saturday, April 27, at Linfield.
Tickets are available at www.linfieldtickets.com.
Linfield College students will share the Hawaiian culture with the community, including performing dances from the Hawaiian Islands as well as New Zealand, Tonga, Tahiti and Samoa.
The dinner will be catered by Ohana Hawaiian Cafe and served by Linfield students, and will feature a number of traditional Hawaiian dishes. Dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. in a tent located in the Pioneer Hall parking lot, with dinner service ending at 6:45 p.m. The Country Store will open at 6:30 p.m. in the Health, Human Performance and Athletics (HHPA) building, room 112. The Country Store features foods, leis and gifts donated from Hawaiian companies and families, with proceeds helping cover event costs. There will also be a concession stand available during the performance.
The live performance will be held in the Ted Wilson Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the event includes pre-show entertainment by a Na Hoku Hanohano award-winning band: Ekolu. Ekolu will also perform live music after the show.
The annual lu’au is organized by members of the Linfield Hawaiian Club, Hawaiian and non-Hawaiian alike, with students involved in all aspects of the production including choreography. New dances are created each year, and student performers began rehearsals in early February.
Many parents of Linfield students and alumni help with the event, sewing costumes, collecting donations, gathering supplies and foliage, making leis, setting up and coordinating shipping from the islands to the mainland.
General admission tickets for the performance are $17, no age restrictions. Tickets for both the show and dinner are $27 for general admission and $32 for reserved seats. Student and senior (60+) tickets are $17 and $22 and require I.D. Children’s (ages 3-12) tickets are $17 and $12. Children under age 2, seated on their parents’ laps, are admitted free without a meal.
