Linfield College students and staff weathered the elements to serve the local community during the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service on Saturday, Jan. 16.
Volunteers worked with a number of McMinnville community partners including Yamhill Community Action Partnership, the McMinnville Community Center, Barbara Boyer Farm, Cozine Creek, Juliette’s House, Miller Woods, St. Vincent de Paul and more. Prior to the service projects, members of Linfield’s Black Student Union led volunteers in reflections about Martin Luther King, Jr.
“I like to volunteer because it is a great way to give back to my community,” said event director Hannah Ellsworth, a sophomore. “It is also an awesome way to learn more about the need in the community you live in and it provides you with the opportunity to find a way to help.”
Linfield’s MLK Jr. Day of Service honors his legacy of peaceful community action. Events are focused on increasing understanding and creating a more inclusive and celebratory community.
