Clara Martinez, a senior at Linfield College, was recently selected as a participant for the National Council for International Visitors’ (NCIV) Emerging Leaders Program.
As a part of the Emerging Leaders Program, Martinez was immersed in the world of international exchange at the NCIV national meeting Jan. 29-Feb. 1 in Washington D.C. She and others took part in programs to build their professional and leadership skills, widened their networks and engaged with high-level diplomats via lunches and dinners.
The national meeting is the leading forum for developing skills, identifying key trends, and sharing best practices in international exchange and nonprofit management. The Emerging Leaders program is funded by the NCIV, in partnership with Hosteling International and FHI 360, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving living conditions and human development.
Martinez, a political science and communication arts major from Seattle, Wash., also spent the summer of 2012 in the Welsh Summer Program in the U.K. on a Fulbright Grant and was an intern for the above-mentioned World Affairs Council of Oregon during the summer of 2013.
“Interning at the World Affairs Council of Oregon opened a new door of opportunities for me,” said Martinez. “I felt honored to represent the Council at this conference.”
