Smile: Masks optional in most spaces beginning March 12

March 10, 2022 by Eric Howald

By Eric Howald

Masks will be optional in most spaces with a few exceptions starting March 12.

Linfield University is happy to announce a shift in our masking policy that helped slow the spread of COVID-19.

Because of the significant decline in COVID-19 case counts and the high vaccination rate on both campuses, Linfield’s Temporary Face Covering policy has been revised. Starting Saturday, March 12, face coverings will be optional in most settings with the following exceptions:

• On the McMinnville campus: Masks are required within the Student Health, Wellness and Counseling Center (SHWCC) in Walker Hall and the Athletic Treatment Center in HHPA.*

• For nursing students: Equipment and vaccination requirements should continue to be followed.

We ask that you continue to honor the wishes of fellow students, faculty and staff when in close quarters indoors or outside. As a courtesy, carry a mask with you and respect the choices of those who prefer to wear masks to protect themselves, loved ones or vulnerable populations they work with.

Linfield community members are encouraged to continue practicing good health habits, including washing your hands often, monitoring your health and staying home if feeling sick or ill. COVID-19 has surprised the world on more than one occasion, and we must remain on guard.

Linfield reserves the right to reinstate a masking policy if transmission on campus or in the greater community increases significantly or reaches a “surge” level.  Read the “Temporary Face Covering Policy” on the Environmental Health, Safety and Risk Management webpage.

 * Because the SHWCC and Athletic Treatment Center are considered a health care or clinical setting, OHA masking, personal protective equipment and vaccination requirements must be followed.
