Oregon cyclists will have more room to explore, thanks in part to the efforts of Linfield College Professor Jeff McNamee.
McNamee, associate professor of health and human performance, spearheads Salem Area Trail Alliance, a volunteer-driven trail building non-profit.
The group is raising money for a new bike park in Wallace Marine Park, putting finishing touches on trails at Spring Valley, working on a new trail at Silver Falls State Park and improving routes near Sprague High School. Future projects include improving trails around Polk County. Read the Salem Statesman-Journal story.
At Linfield, McNamee’s courses and research have focused on the promotion of youth engagement with physical activity, and he has published on topics such as health clubs in public schools, the integration of outdoor pursuits in school-based physical education, and standards-based assessment. His most recent research has focused on the economic impact of mountain biking in Oregon, and he has also published book chapters about mountain biking, rock climbing and backpacking.
