The Linfield Opera Theater will present “Mozart Celebration” on Sunday, May 20, at 7 p.m. in the Richard and Lucille Ice Auditorium, located in Melrose Hall at Linfield.
Award-winning student soloists and the Linfield choir will present full-costumed scenes from Mozart’s most popular comic operas. Excerpts from the classic social comedy “Le nozze di Figaro,” the risqué satire of the sexes “Cosi fan tutte” and the amusing fairytale “Magic Flute” will be performed.
Performing in opera theater productions is beneficial to young singers as they gain experience not just singing, but acting in an ensemble.This production will deliver non-stop laughs to audience members, who can expect to see amusing characters and creatures on stage, according to Anton Belov, assistant professor of music.
“Mozart’s comic operas are wonderful for young singers,” said Belov. “The repertoire does not get much better and it is so much fun for students and audience members alike.”
Belov earned his bachelor’s degree in music from the New England Conservatory and went on to earn master’s degrees at both the Juilliard School of Music and Boston University. He has performed in leading baritone roles with Boston Lyric Opera, Connecticut Grand Opera, Opera Boston, Opera New Jersey and the Opera Orchestra of New York, among others. He has also performed as a soloist with multiple groups including The New England Philharmonic, California Symphony and Hartford Symphony, performing in venues such as Carnegie Recital Hall in New York City. At Linfield, Belov teaches a variety of courses including applied voice and music appreciation. He is also the co-director of the voice program at the Atlantic Music Festival in Maine.
