Need to find balance in living with wolves, says English prof in opinion column

Professor David Sumner advocated a balance between humans and wolves in an op-ed in the Statesman Journal.

Wolves are back in Oregon, and so is the tension between wolves and ranchers, says Sumner, who directs the Linfield Writing Program. “As a community, we are clearly struggling with what it means to live with an apex predator and a more complete ecosystem.”

Surprisingly, Sumner says, “some of that struggle can be blamed on the 2,000-year-old Roman poet Virgil.”
