New Linfield scholarship seeks Northern Nevada student applicants

October 3, 2016 by Linfield News Team

By Linfield News Team

Linfield College, Pioneer HallA new Linfield College scholarship honoring the community service and activism of the late T.J. Day is now available, with preference given to students from rural Northern Nevada.

The Debbie and T.J. Day Endowed Scholarship Fund has been established to provide support to deserving students at the college. Award winners may receive varying amounts of support depending on their individual financial circumstances. The scholarship is intended to benefit future generations of Linfield students and to encourage them to make the world a better place.

T.J. Day, a longtime Reno resident, was a 1971 Linfield graduate who served on the Board of Trustees for 42 years, including 23 as vice chair. Financial contributions from he and wife, Debbie, helped make possible the construction and renovation of many campus buildings, most notably, T.J. Day Hall. He secured funding for college expansion as well as grants for computer science, science equipment and the Linfield Center for the Northwest, among other programs.

T.J., along with Debbie, was a lifetime proponent of the transformative nature of a Linfield education. Recipients are encouraged to follow his example of being deeply immersed in campus activities and to continue his example of community service throughout their lifetimes.

Linfield College is a private, comprehensive, undergraduate institution located in the Pacific Northwest. It connects the traditional liberal arts with practical education through collaborative, service and experiential learning opportunities. Linfield is nationally recognized for its strong teaching faculty, outstanding academic programs and distinctive international emphasis. Linfield educates students to become global citizens, with more than 40 percent of all graduates participating in study abroad courses.
