Nursing Professor Melissa Jones shared insights in a Salem Statesman Journal article about end-of-life story telling.
Jones says storytelling allows patients to make progress in their preparation for death. “For some, it’s a source of comfort and closure,” she says. “For others, it’s an opportunity to say goodbye. Others need someone to witness their experiences and reflections.
“Sometimes, when they can do that, they can move forward,” says Jones, who has been a hospice nurse for 17 years.
Linfield’s nursing major is a transfer-only program located on the Portland Campus in vibrant Northwest Portland. Students apply to the nursing program after completing prerequisites at Linfield’s McMinnville Campus, other 4-year colleges and universities, or community colleges.
Linfield nursing students experience an integrated community-focused curriculum that combines clinical nursing experience balanced with courses in the humanities, laboratory sciences and social and behavioral sciences.
