An artist talk by video artist Daniel Heffernan will be Wednesday, Nov. 7, at 5 p.m. in Room 127 of the Nicholson Library. A reception will follow at 6 p.m. in the Linfield Gallery. The show will run through Nov. 17.
Heffernan is a visual and media artist based in New York City whose paintings and video art have been internationally exhibited. The Linfield Gallery exhibition will be his first show in the Pacific Northwest.
ARTIST
Heffernan explores the meaning and manifestations of live performance in our media saturated society. His art-making integrates various disciplines, including movement, video, music, writing and the visual arts, and draws inspiration from the rapidly evolving relationship between performance and technology.
His most recent design projects have been featured at HERE Theatre, which The New York Times credits as “one of the most unusual arts spaces in New York and possibly the model for the cutting-edge arts spaces of tomorrow.” His work has also been featured at the Soho Playhouse, where he collaborated with legendary film director Ken Russell, and the Clurman Theater, both in New York City.
Heffernan teaches film making at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University and video design with the International Schools Theatre Association. He received a master of fine arts from New York University.
EXHIBITION
“We employ ancient techniques developed in the borderlands of art to produce endless amusement, power, privilege, wonder and simulation,” Heffernan wrote of his upcoming exhibit. “My work looks onto this landscape where we both relish and disdain our roles as tyrant, prophet, chemist and criminal, where we wade alongside each other in a promise of meaning lying just beyond our reach.”
LINFIELD GALLERY
Exhibitions of regional, national and international stature are on view throughout the academic year in the 1,500 square foot space at Linfield College. Patrons can expect challenging shows that exemplify diverse approaches to the practice of contemporary visual art. Exhibits are organized by Linfield Gallery Curator and Director Cris Moss.
All exhibits are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. The gallery is located in the James Miller Fine Arts Center on the Linfield College campus (map).
