Portland artist Damien Gilley has installed his most ambitious project yet, says the Oregonian. His installation is on exhibit until March 12 at the Linfield Fine Art Gallery, curated by museum Director Cris Moss.
“Masterplexed” is “a vision of space as unstable, malleable from moment to moment, and entirely predicated on sensory interpretation,” the review said.
It’s “so dizzying because it demands the eye reconcile multiple layers of competing depth. There is the two-dimensional depth of the tape drawings, the three-dimensional depth of the gallery’s modified walls, and the implied depth in its use of color.”
The sense of perspective shifts constantly as visitors enter the gallery space and “collide in confusing configurations, applying geometry to insinuate pockets of depth that could never exist in the real world.”
Visit the Linfield Fine Art Gallery from noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. The exhibition is free and the public is invited.
