Garry Killgore has turned decades of running experience and his biomechanics research into a business with a global reach.
In 2004 the health, human performance and athletics professor launched AQx, which sells deep-water running shoes and buoyancy suits that help athletes train and rehabilitate without the impact of running on land.
The Oregonian says Killgore’s athletic shoes and suits have gained popularity among elite athletes, including golfer Tiger Woods, quarterback Peyton Manning and Portland Trail Blazers center Greg Oden.
Killgore, who also coached track and field at Linfield, is committed to the health of his athletes. The Oregonian notes that Linfield athletes trained by Killgore have a stress fracture injury rate of less than 1 percent compared with a nationwide average of 4 to 14 percent.
“Many national champs coach for performance first,” Killgore says. “You ought to be protecting athletes’ health, first and foremost.”
