Amber West, an author, poet, professor and playwright, will read a selection of her chapbook and poetry work on Tuesday, April 16, at 7 p.m. at the Linfield College Nicholson Library.
West’s chapbook, Daughter Eraser, was published in 2017, and her full-length poetry collection, Hen & God, was published in 2017.
West “puppet poems” and plays have been performed on the east and west coasts. Her poetry has appeared in journals and anthologies such as Rhizomes: Cultural Studies in Emerging Knowledge, Calyx, and Furies: A Poetry Anthology of Women Warriors. West’s scholarly work has been published in the Journal of Research on Women & Gender, Puppetry International, Episodes from a History of Undoing: The Heritage of Female Subversiveness, and The Routledge Companion to Puppetry & Material Performance.
West earned her Bachelors of Arts in literature/creative writing at the University of California, Santa Cruz, Masters of Fine Arts in creative writing at New York University, and Ph.D. in English at University of Connecticut. She is co-founder and director of the artist collective, Alphabet Arts, for whom she created and directed the Puppets & Poets festival in NYC from 2011-2015.
She teaches writing at University of California, Los Angeles and lives in North Hollywood with her husband, actor Sam T. West, and their son. Her interests include poetry and poetics, puppet theater, race and gender studies, performance studies, intersectionality, and service learning.
