Award-winning vocal group Quince Ensemble will bring their genre-blending vocal music to Linfield College.
Quince Ensemble will hold a pre-concert discussion on Thursday, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. in Jonasson Hall at Linfield College and will perform at 7 p.m. in the Richard and Lucille Ice auditorium in Melrose Hall on campus.
The concert will feature songs by contemporary composers Eliza Brown, Amanda DeBoer Bartlett, Liz Pearse, Michael Miller, Luigi Nono and Jennifer Jolley. The vocal group will also be in residence at Linfield from October 23-25 and will work with students in outreach activities and classes. The Quince Ensemble residency is a Linfield PLACE (Program for Liberal Arts and Civic Engagement) event. The 2018-19 PLACE theme, “Revolutions,” explores questions including, “How have major social and political revolutionary movements transformed our social and cultural practices — and are they necessarily good?” The concert contains adult language and content, including descriptions of sexual violence and political unrest, that may not be suitable for all audiences.
Comprised of vocalists Liz Pearse, Kayleigh Butcher, Amanda DeBoer Bartlett and Carrie Henneman Shaw, Quince Ensemble pushes the boundaries of vocal ensemble literature. Quince recently received a Chamber Music America award to commission a new song cycle by Chicago-based composer LJ White, and released their third studio album, “Motherland,” on New Focus Recordings in April 2018. In 2016, Quince was featured on the KODY Festival Lublin, Poland, in collaboration with David Lang and Beth Morrison Projects. They have also appeared on the Outpost Concert Series, the Philip Glass: Music with Friends concert at the Issue Project Room in Brooklyn, Alia Musica and the SONiC Festival in New York.
The concert, sponsored by the Linfield College Department of Music, the Lacroute Arts Series and PLACE, is free and open to the public.
The Lacroute Arts Series at Linfield College supports the Departments of Art and Visual Culture, Music, and Theatre and Communication Arts in their efforts to produce and present arts events for the Linfield and McMinnville communities. The series provides quality arts experiences featuring distinguished visiting artists.
