College students are packing more into their evening hours rather than counting sheep.
A recent study by a Linfield College alumna, Rhianna Wallace ’13, is analyzing how college students prioritize work, school and social activities over sleep. The trend is due to the fact that American society is heavily dictated by school and work, Wallace explained.
Wallace is a part of a master’s thesis group at Dominican University researching how sleep affects college students. Her sleep studies have been featured in a blog on the Huffington Post.
“Preliminary findings from our study showed students believe sleep is important, but they prioritize other tasks and activities over sleep,” said Wallace, who earned a degree in health science from Linfield.
Wallace’s blog post discusses how college students will prioritize school work and socializing over a good night’s sleep. “Is becoming sleep deprived more important than putting off tasks that can be finished the next day?” asks Wallace.
This blog is part of a series that will continue on the Huntington Post’s website.
