Eric Schuck, professor of economics at Linfield College, has always had a keen interest in agriculture.
As a lieutenant commander in the Naval Reserve, he travels to Lemoore, Calif., every month and over the past two years he has noticed changes in the landscape due to the drought.
Schuck wrote about these changes in an article for the Yamhill Valley News-Register. He challenges people to think of the drought in California as more than just a physical problem. Instead he focuses on what he calls “institutional drought” and ineffective laws surrounding water usage.
Schuck has been teaching economics at Linfield since 2006. He has been an agricultural economist for the past 14 years, and is primarily interested in studying environmental and agricultural economics, with an emphasis on water use during droughts.
