Pioneering women played and continue to play a major part in the rich history of Linfield University. Linfield will honor the contributions of women striving to make a better, brighter future for everyone with a series of Women’s History Month events throughout March.
Upcoming events, which are free and open to the public, are:
• Women in Sports – A panel discussion: 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 15 in the Fred Meyer Lounge. Join graduate student moderator Alana Nuttman ’21 for a discussion featuring women in sports. Special guests include Assistant Professor Natalie Welch, Associate Athletic Director Jane Samuels, Kara Adams, director of guest experience for the Portland Trailblazers and Jen Anderson, vice president of people and culture for the Hillsboro Hops.
- Gendered Spaces: Non-binary Folk in Women’s Spaces: 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 16 in the Withnell Multicultural Center. Linfield University Pride (LUP) in partnership with Queer Connect are holding a candid conversation with Professor Tanya Tompkins about where non-binary folk fit into binary gendered spaces.
- Women’s History Month Recognition Reception: 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 17 in Jonasson Hall in Melrose Hall. The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) hosts a drop-in reception celebrating women on campus who have made contributions to diversity, equity and inclusion in the Linfield community. Faculty and staff nominations can be made via the online form through March 16.
- Paint and Sip: 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 29 in the Fred Meyer Lounge in the Riley Campus Center. Join DEI and Linfield artist Allison Hmura for an interactive painting event that culminates in paint a collaborative portrait. Reserve one of the 20 available spots on Engage.
- “She Carries On” – A documentary screening: 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 30. Welch co-produced the film “She Carries On” about the cultural tradition of stickball among Cherokee people in North Carolina and the Cherokee women who played the game at the turn of the century. Welch will host a discussion of the film after the screening.
