Student research focuses on plight of Burmese refugees

December 10, 2012 by Linfield News Team

By Linfield News Team

ASIANetwork featured the research of Linfield students, who examined one of the most complicated migration crises in the world.

Student researchers Morgan Christiansen ’13, Bridget Grant ’13, Kole Kracaw ’13, Leanne McCallum ’13 and William McHenry ’13 studied the Burmese refugee issue from the perspective of a variety of stakeholders including the Royal Thai Government, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and other international, non-governmental and community-based organizations, along with donor governments such as the U.S.

Their research shows how incentives sometimes undermine efforts to solve the refugee crisis. Political science Professor Patrick Cottrell served as mentor.
