Tickets are now on sale for “Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind (30 Plays in 60 Minutes)” by Greg Allen, which features the work of six student-directors. A cast of nine actors plus an emcee are tasked with completing the 30 plays within the timed 60 minutes, aided by interactions with the audience. The plays, which are chosen by this year’s directors, range from themes of love and sex and war to music lyrics and horror, among others. Performance dates are 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, then 7:30 and 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8 in the Marshall Theatre in Ford Hall.
Tickets are $10 for full price and $5 for students from any school. Tickets can be purchased online or at the box office, which is open 3-5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday starting Dec. 4 and until before showtimes. Seating is reserved.
Unique to this performance is the high level of interaction audience members have, beginning when they arrive. Ticket holders have the chance to receive $1, $2 or $3 cash back as determined by the roll of a die at the door; however, should attendees choose, they can donate it back to Linfield in support of the program’s upcoming trip to the regional theatre festival in Spokane.
Audience members also decide the order the plays are performed by calling out the number of the play they want to see from a menu of plays. In addition, pizza will be provided to the audience for any sold-out performance.
The audience is also invited to an opening night reception on Dec. 7. Wine, coffee and light refreshments will be available after the performance to celebrate student directors.
Student directors are Nikki Blanckaert, Sydney Monroe, Nikos Rictor, David Stephens, Colton Smith and Robert Turner. MJ Rinehart as the emcee heads up the acting ensemble, which includes Victoria Breazeale, Irving Flores Castro, Zoe Hertlein, Brielle Kromer, TJ Lake, Shayden Lough, Bella Rigutto, Dominic Thompson and DeAndre Williams. Student scenic design is by MJ Rinehart and Kaitlin Harwood is the stage manager. Janet Gupton is professor of the directing course and mentor for this production with assistance from the Theatre Program’s faculty and staff.
