Linfield College was ranked 112 in the recently-released U.S. News & World Report survey of the nation’s best liberal arts colleges. The annual survey includes 1,600 schools in a variety of categories.
“Best College” criteria includes the academic caliber of students, retention and graduation rates, class size and the number of full-time faculty.
The small college received additional high marks this year from other organizations. The Institute of International Education ranked Linfield in the top 40 among U.S. baccalaureate institutions for study abroad participation, with half of all graduates having studied outside the U.S. Forbes Magazine named Linfield one of the nation’s “Top Colleges,” with only four Oregon schools included in the top 200 undergraduate institutions, and Washington Monthly named Linfield College one of the top 100 liberal arts schools that make a vital contribution to society.
Linfield College is one of the few schools in the Pacific Northwest dedicated exclusively to undergraduate education, and offers a student-faculty ratio of 12:1. The park-like residential campus, with a liberal arts and sciences curriculum, is located an hour from Portland, Ore. Linfield’s School of Nursing is located in Portland, and its Adult Degree Program supports students at eight Oregon sites and serves a virtual learning community across the globe. The college offers 47 majors and enrolls more than 2,600 students. Chartered in 1858, the school is one of the first colleges in the Pacific Northwest.
